Neurologist

Alexandra had her first appointment with the neurologist today. He seemed like a very nice, experienced doctor and got Alexandra to interact quite a bit. As expected, he ordered genetic testing, an 8-hour video EEG to rule out seizure activity, and an MRI. He wants us to get an independent speech therapy evaluation and talk to the head of the CARD (Center for Autism and Related Disabilities) center. Most importantly, he thinks we should get Alexandra to play and interact with us as much as possible, so that she doesn't retreat into her own world to fill space. He thinks it's important to teach Alexandra ANY form of meaningful communication as soon as possible. Alexandra has been making some progress in her new 6-hour/day therapy regimen. Her motor imitation skills are much improved. Her therapists see endless potential in her--so do we.
